Greens have been tined and topdressed once and will be done again in the next few weeks. Most of the rest of the course has been aerated and we await some warm weather. With the dry and cold weather we are cracking on with tree work around the golf course. Opening out the canopy to help new growth and encourage wildflower growth, removing invasive species and clearing out dead and dangerous trees has all been achieved.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDowaM_0nVRrNDD80SGPAMyxqp16h5cJbkfx65FnJvjpR9ROpNjeUamaeSv7z5EXM0Zt-1exuth0jumswMrt1GVawaRr1k9UMAJbmJWaytkS7yEVcOEmkQ62Yq-6OFAannEsilyvdZTIBD7ctP9ZO8JkR6ntvSWbbGS1_koSFlOwcx_xMSUahBGdRtuQ/s4000/20230130_085543.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDowaM_0nVRrNDD80SGPAMyxqp16h5cJbkfx65FnJvjpR9ROpNjeUamaeSv7z5EXM0Zt-1exuth0jumswMrt1GVawaRr1k9UMAJbmJWaytkS7yEVcOEmkQ62Yq-6OFAannEsilyvdZTIBD7ctP9ZO8JkR6ntvSWbbGS1_koSFlOwcx_xMSUahBGdRtuQ/w400-h300/20230130_085543.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Removing invasive holly</td></tr></tbody></table><br />We have also created a new piece of pipework to hopefully improve irrigation pressure on the golf course. 10th Old has been joined to the 12th green London through the trees with nearly 200 metres of pipe. We will also fit new valves to further help on the 12th green London.<div> <br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfu_PpYQhNw15pqMvEvWViOuqpoVtg-YlWySx_uONFGRb9Yo6o8nh_wOwxJeP-lGdhxK95akOyW0UP7Yq9UHl53CfqtLXthS9eYoLKJATOR78bejsZUHucCtbMly_a4zQuR_M_6egOyaQuXMij0ugBVkoKqNfYrQvkRRlLYde40D16Z4kkdEVpjLz1zw/s4000/20230201_130951.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfu_PpYQhNw15pqMvEvWViOuqpoVtg-YlWySx_uONFGRb9Yo6o8nh_wOwxJeP-lGdhxK95akOyW0UP7Yq9UHl53CfqtLXthS9eYoLKJATOR78bejsZUHucCtbMly_a4zQuR_M_6egOyaQuXMij0ugBVkoKqNfYrQvkRRlLYde40D16Z4kkdEVpjLz1zw/w300-h400/20230201_130951.jpg" width="300" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">New pipework</td></tr></tbody></table><br />As well as solid-tining, 2 greens were hollow-tined. A wet December has pretty much caught us up after a dry year. January has started in much the same way, so the course is looking pretty sorry for itself at the moment. The order of the day therefore is staying off the golf course. As fewer machine marks as we can and limited works on the in play areas. Pathways are pretty much finished for the winter season, with only the extension on the 1st London to finish once we have some drier weather.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm8PucC1HlitR5UWBlfrKLKn2qXuJCUL7cCG22m4jTCHLKuhp3-ydhdQAXNugjgOyik7-XrN5l9jaLp7aS149sjKThn_a36z_wVLWXyloYXv3t3fpoI363zI_wjzR_PAGtmhJPetHAtxcm__XOLHh6Im_qSrTvxCP7MyjKl0LWo3BRBx4BgY0uV-EPmw/s4000/20221215_092002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm8PucC1HlitR5UWBlfrKLKn2qXuJCUL7cCG22m4jTCHLKuhp3-ydhdQAXNugjgOyik7-XrN5l9jaLp7aS149sjKThn_a36z_wVLWXyloYXv3t3fpoI363zI_wjzR_PAGtmhJPetHAtxcm__XOLHh6Im_qSrTvxCP7MyjKl0LWo3BRBx4BgY0uV-EPmw/w400-h300/20221215_092002.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Right 9th Upper</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p>Woodlands are now the order priority with the first stage of work being completed on the pathway from the 9th Tee Upper and the 13/14 London and around the 14th Tee area. Lots of extensions, changes and new paths being built over the last and indeed next months. These have been put in round the course to improve access throughout the winter months. As we have found in previous years, each small path improvement has meant a better course in early season. Alongside this we are upgrading mats, mainly on the Old course initially but with some new mats on the London. Before we move onto plastic by early December, we are changing the mats on 3rd and 11th Old, with the 9th Tee Old recieving a larger mat on the back tee which struggles to be any good through the season</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Onwards we go however. The next 2 weeks will see constant cutting across all areas to try and get the course back to our usual standard. Greens however with the dry weather and the obvious delay in achieving our normal standard are way behind. We will start with some light dressings, a little more feed and begin to refine the sward with brushing, v-cutting and regular mowing.</div>

The greener bent grass seen in this picture is slowly filling into bare areas on greens. This species is better able to deal with autumn disease and will provide better more consistent surfaces in the long term. The dry spring and slightly longer cut on greens has helped increase this percentage.</div>

Starting to get the feeling the weather is changing. Although unsettled weather wise, grass is definitely moving and density across all areas is improving. Greens are now ticking along nicely and will have no machinery across them until they dry. By early April I would expect conditions to be conducive to dressing and aeration. This will follow the pattern of previous years with a heavy sand dressing and solid tined after. This will leave a poor surface for a few days but will bounce back quickly as we are not Hollow-tining.</div>

Project work on the course is almost finished for the winter with a number of loose ends to tie up before the end of the month. The 10th, 18th and back Tee on the 13th Upper have all been laid and are really ready for a cut. Weather has stopped us on the 5th Tee but the main shapes have been cut and a few days of dry weather and hard work and this Tee will be ready for turfing. All of these Tees have had new irrigation pipe rerouted and laid, along with re positioning of sprinklers. Whilst we relay Tees we are taking the opportunity to improve paths, access and tidy up years of wear around Tee complexes as can be seen below.<br />

After not being happy with the finish and drainage work on the 15th bunkers we have gone back over these areas with new drainage and both are now in play looking very tidy. Working on a open hole means it will take most of spring to really knit turf in and create a more complete hole. <div>

Alongside all of this project work is our regular schedule. This has included fertilising all aprons, poor tees, all poor areas around green surrounds and any new turf. Fairways have all been fed with a concoction of Nitrogen and Iron for both growth and to eliminate extensive Moss after the dry summer last year. Tees are being tined and dressed within the next few weeks ready for play early next month.<br />

Course is starting to take shape after the better weather of the last 2 weeks. Greens have received a light feed, patches are being constantly filled with sand and disease scars have been kept to a minimal. Tees and high wear areas are being fed in the next week.</div>
